Overview
Zoom AI Companion 3.0 (GA December 2025) is the most cross-platform of the native AI assistants. It can join Google Meet and Microsoft Teams meetings — not just Zoom calls — and supports in-person meeting capture via mobile. Included at no extra cost with paid Zoom plans.
Zoom uses a federated AI architecture: proprietary 2B and 49B-parameter models, plus OpenAI (GPT-4), Anthropic (Claude 3 via Bedrock), NVIDIA Nemotron, and Perplexity. A proprietary "Z-Scorer" routes tasks to the most cost-effective model, claiming GPT-4-comparable quality at less than 6% of the cost.
Pricing
- Included with paid Zoom plans ($13.33+/user/month)
- Standalone option: $10/month
- Custom AI Companion add-on: $12/month
The value proposition of "free with Zoom" is compelling — but only if your organization is already standardized on Zoom.
Security & Data Residency
Strong certification portfolio: ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II, FedRAMP Moderate, and HITRUST. Data residency offers three tiers:
- ZMO (Zoom-only models): supports EU
- ZM+ (Zoom + Anthropic via Bedrock): default for EU
- Federated (full model range): US default
Important caveat: AI features do not work with end-to-end encryption enabled. Some third-party processing still routes to the US even under EU options.
Key Differences
Platform-native, not platform-neutral. Zoom AI Companion's deepest value remains within the Zoom ecosystem. While it can join Meet and Teams calls, the experience is optimized for Zoom. Harmony is truly platform-neutral — every source is a first-class citizen.
Limited CI depth. No deal scoring, coaching analytics, or sales methodology support. Transcription accuracy concerns ("absurd things" in transcripts per user reviews). Harmony provides configurable, deep conversation intelligence.
Not infrastructure. Cannot serve as a conversation data lake or integrate IVR/phone system data at scale. Harmony provides a unified data layer you own and pipe into your systems.
E2EE incompatibility. AI features are disabled when end-to-end encryption is enabled — a real limitation for security-conscious organizations.
When to Choose Harmony
If your organization is already on Zoom and needs basic meeting summaries, AI Companion is included in your plan. But for cross-platform conversation intelligence, source-agnostic ingestion (including IVR and offline), a conversation data lake, and true data ownership — Harmony delivers what platform-native tools structurally cannot.
